Medical Lab Coats

Medical lab coats have been around for at least a century. They are designed for use in the medical and health industry and are worn by doctors, nurses. Medical lab coats will add to the mood and atmosphere of any medical office, and are especially important in pediatric offices.  Medical lab coats are important to doctors and other people in the medical field because they primarily protect the clothing that is underneath the jacket. An unwritten rule in the medical world is that doctors wear longer coats while nurses and other staff wear shorter ones.

When used in the development laboratories, they protect against accidental spills. In this case they usually have long sleeves and are made of an absorbent material, so that the user can be protected from the chemical. Some medical lab coats will have buttons at the end of the sleeves, to help secure them around your wrist so that they do not hang into beakers of chemicals. Short-sleeved lab coats also exist where protection from substances such as acid is not necessary, and are favored by certain scientists, such as microbiologists, avoiding the problem of hanging sleeves altogether, combined with the ease of washing the forearms.

From profession to profession the design and material will vary in medical lab coats. People working in laboratories like the white cotton or sometimes the cotton/polyester blend. Poly/cotton blend Lab coats have the ability to shed liquids much better than 100% cotton coats as the cotton will absorb liquid associated with the medical profession more readily then the poly/cotton blend. Even being more stain resistant, this fabric may sometimes react with some of the substances that may come into contact with the coat. For people in the medical field, the medical lab coat not only protects doctors, nurses but is a symbol of his expertise.  For other people that work in the medical field, the lab coat is merely symbolic to identify them as part of the medical staff. Naturally the choice of material will have a greater flexibility.

Whatever the case maybe, the proper wearing of medical lab coats will always vary from person to person, and will always depend on standards set by an individual’s workplace and what medical field they belong.  Choose the style, the size, and then for an added touch, try getting your medical lab coats customized or personalized with your facility’s logo or brand as well as your name and title.
